ACP stands for “autologous conditioned plasma.” ACP therapy is a modern therapy procedure where the body's own blood plasma is condtioned. Only the body’s own substances are used in the therapy. Blood plasma contains a high concentration of platelets needed for therapy.

In order to obtain this, the doctor will first take a small amount of your own blood during ACP therapy. ACP therapy is a biologic and generally very well tolerated therapy method. No short or long-term risks or side effects are known.

ACP is the most widely used form of platelet-rich plasma treatment. You will find doctors whose practices are set up to use this modern therapy in most parts of the UK.

Who Is Qualified to Perform ACP Therapy?

If you are interested in ACP therapy, you can contact various specialists depending on your symptoms. There are specialists for ACP for osteoarthritis, ACP for sports injuries, and ACP for back pain. Accordingly, an orthopedic specialist, a sports physician, but also a surgeon or other medical professional can perform ACP therapy.

Experience has shown that the doctors themselves attend all steps necessary for the therapy.

Family doctors can often also recommend a nearby specialist, saving you the trouble of finding a doctor for ACP therapies. Therapy itself is usually performed in an outpatient setting.

How It Works

As soon as your blood has been taken and conditioned, the resulting blood plasma is immediately injected into the affected area. The procedure is carried out with millimeter precision under X-ray or ultrasound guidance. The body's own platelets then release a series of growth factors into injured or inflamed tissue, which activate cell regeneration in that tissue. This can inhibit painful inflammatory processes and help with healing. Well-being and mobility improve.

Depending on the area affected, treatment takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Usually, 3 to 5 treatments are needed approximately 1 week apart. ACP therapy can be carried out in an outpatient setting in the doctor's office and there are no known intolerances.
