What Causes Spondylitis?
Spondylitis is inflammation of vertebral bodies, the exact cause of which cannot always be determined with certainty. Nevertheless, there are several factors that favor the outbreak of this condition:
- Diabetes
- Alcohol
- Severe obesity
- Kidney disease
- Chronicor immunocompromising infections, such as HIV infection

How Is Spondylitis Diagnosed?
Diagnosis involves taking a medical history in which the relevant physicians determine the symptoms and possible causes. The blood count is then examined to make a suspected diagnosis. X-rays can reveal whether the back pain has a mechanical origin. However, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan should be performed to confirm that it is spondylitis.

How Do You Recognize Spondylitis?
There are no symptoms to begin with. Later, pain starts in the affected vertebrae, which can be felt as far away as the arms or legs. The pain may also be accompanied by fever and chills. As the condition progresses, sensory disorders or restricted movement may occur. If left untreated, inflammatory changes occur in the spine, which can lead to the destruction of vertebrae.

Can Spondylitis Be Cured?
Diagnosis and treatment should begin immediately to prevent neurological damage or even paralysis. The treatment of infectious spondylitis is initially conservative by prescribing antibiotics. If the inflammation has not yet progressed, the spine can be held stable with a back brace. If the intervertebral discs are already affected, only surgery will help. During conservative therapy as well as following surgery, ACP therapy can be used as a supportive measure to regenerate the injured vertebrae without side effects.
